TENCENT OFFICE

Locations: 39 W 13th St, New York, NY 10011 (Besides the Party City Store)

Bring the virtual to the physical. This office serves as a development area for the Tencent Games accelerator, providing employees with an innovative and inspiring environment to explore and develop ideas for building physical amusement parks (offline interactive exhibition) of popular virtual Tencent games. As what the company conceived as their key-value, user-centric experiences would be produced in this workspace.

The design of the office would be experiential and dynamic through the integration of games and cutting-edge technology. A mock-up would be built temporarily in the workplace area before the offline game interactive exhibition is finalized and implemented into spaces like big shopping malls. Employees and interested game players would be invited to participate in testing the mock-up amusement park in order to gather feedback and increase social interaction in the workspace.

“Flexibility” as a central design idea intends to add a layer of immersion to humanize the workplace experience. The attribute of “flexibility” is applied through several aspects of the project, including programs, activities, free-flowing forms and materials. The design of the office would be experiential and dynamic through the integration of games and cutting-edge technology.

ISOMETRICS

FLEXIBLE MEETING POD

This area is designated for employees to hold brief meetings. Rooms are designed in a variety of sizes to accommodate groups of two, three, and four people. By lowering the ceiling in the meeting area, the stair leads employees to the upper space, where they can take a transitory rest on the soft cushion.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL MEETING POD

The pods are open and semi-private areas are designed to be multifunctional. They are located throughout the collaboration space. Employees can use the pod for private work, casual conversations, or simply to sit on the floor.

Klein blue, black, white, and a small amount of red are used as highlights throughout the project. Given that Tencent is a high-tech firm that requires a great deal of creative labor, the bold color Klein blue, which symbolizes depth and infinity, and the vibrant orange-red color inspired by their logo would be used as the primary embellishment throughout the area.
